Suite, Op. 17
Capriccio no. 1 for Three Violins
30’ | Museum admission ticket required
Among the portraits of the champions of the Gonzaga stables, the program of this concert celebrates the virtuosity of Friedrich Hermann, a central figure at the Leipzig Conservatory and close collaborator of Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schumann. One of the foremost experts in nineteenth-century violin literature, Hermann’s compositions are distinguished by harmonic textures that explore every potential of the instrument.
The Suite and Capriccio featured in the program present a unique challenge: writing for three identical instruments without ever becoming monotonous, while treating the trio as a single polyphonic organism capable of ranging from the richness of a string orchestra to the transparency of pure solo playing. The task of bringing these rare pages back to life is entrusted to Tommaso Caprioli, Daniel Mojsoski, and Grazia Serradimigni.
Thanks to a deep musical understanding, the three soloists bring forth an expressive clarity that allows each individual voice within the dense contrapuntal texture to emerge, enhancing the complexity of the polyphony. The intense and ever-changing dialogue that unfolds highlights both the technical daring of the Capriccio and the noble expressiveness of the Suite.
