Trio for violin, cello and piano No. 2 in C minor, Op. 66
30’ | Admission with museum ticket
The Galleria degli Specchi welcomes this afternoon the Trio Resonantia, which aims to engage in dialogue with the audience through music, in perfect harmony with the spirit of the Looking Forward series, which places particular emphasis on the importance of the younger generations.
The program features the Trio No. 2, Op. 66 in C minor from 1845, Mendelssohn’s second and final contribution to the genre. The Allegro energico e con fuoco opens with whispered piano arpeggios before contrasting a dramatic first theme with a lyrical second theme presented by the strings in a major key. The Andante espressivo in E-flat major brings relief with a piano barcarolle gently taken up by the strings. The Scherzo molto allegro in G minor introduces a more folk-like and flowing character, leading to the final Rondo in C minor, where the tension between a melancholic first theme and a more animated second theme resolves into a luminous C major coda.
A resolution that, among the mirrors and allegories of this Gonzaga hall, fittingly accompanies—through its brightness—the celebratory vocation of the frescoes surrounding the audience.
