Trio Resonantia

The Trio Resonantia, founded in 2024, is a piano trio based in Vienna, deeply rooted in the city’s musical traditions. Its international members—the Italian violinist Riccardo Lui, the Austrian cellist Irina Schukoff, and the Japanese pianist Kasumi Yui—come together with the aim of resonating with audiences through the universal language of chamber music.

The trio recently won Second Prize at the 10th International Stasys Vainiunas Chamber Music Competition, receiving special recognition for its distinctive sound, technical precision, and expressive depth. The Trio Resonantia is currently studying with Johannes Meissl at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. It is a guest ensemble at the European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA) and has recently completed its first residency at YCM Berlin.

The trio is also mentored by Thomas Hoppe (ATOS Trio), Avedis Kouyoumdjian, Claus-Christian Schuster (Altenberg Trio), Karla Haltenwanger and Ilona Kindt (Trio Boulanger), Peter Schuhmayer (Artis Quartet), Minna Pensola (Meta4), Marianna Shirinyan, and Patrick Jüdt.

They have performed in venues such as the Haydnhaus and Beethovenhaus (the latter residences of both composers), the Bösendorfer Salon in Vienna, the Festsaal Fürstenhaus in Weimar, the Grand Duke’s Palace in Vilnius, and the Royal Museums in Turin. The trio has also been invited to festivals such as Cultural Summer and ISA Vienna. Their performances have been broadcast by Austrian national radio (“Apropos Klassik”) and ORF Lower Austria (“Licht ins Dunkel”).

The Trio Resonantia’s interpretations are characterized by vitality and passion, both in standard chamber repertoire and contemporary music. Their curiosity about historically informed performance practice, particularly in German Romantic repertoire, has led to close collaboration with violinist and researcher Clive Brown. They have recently worked with Austrian composer Johanna Doderer on her Piano Trio No. 3.
