The Artchipel Orchestra’s journey into the world of Frank Zappa continues with this second volume, pushing even deeper into the creative laboratory of the Baltimore-born genius.
If the first part of the program opened the doors to his universe, this new chapter raises the stakes, exploring works that stand as true milestones of “total music.” The journey begins with the almost mocking, sophisticated melody of Oh No, then dives into the primal energy of King Kong, a monumental piece in which rhythm becomes a force of nature, capable of sweeping away all boundaries between jazz and rock. The program closes with the driving force of Let’s Move to Cleveland, a piece that tests the orchestra’s virtuosity through intricate rhythmic interplay and pure improvisation.
With their usual mastery and a touch of healthy madness, Artchipel reminds us that with Zappa one never simply listens to music: one participates in a sonic revolution that, even in the halls of Mantua, feels more alive and relevant than ever.
