Paddington Trio

Paddington Trio

Considered one of the leading chamber ensembles of their generation, the Paddington Trio has been recognized in international competitions and live performances for its exuberant, energetic interpretations.

Finnish violinist Tuulia Hero, Irish cellist Patrick Moriarty, and American pianist Stephanie Tang have made London their home, establishing themselves as an ensemble with a distinctive and enduring identity. The trio is celebrated for its close and dynamic communication, its sharp and imaginative programming, and its highly refined ensemble playing. Its central mission is to bridge the gap between new listeners and classical music enthusiasts, welcoming everyone into their “living room” of musical discovery and shared love of chamber music.

After beginning their journey together at Paddington Station in 2020, one year after first meeting, the trio won First Prize at the 70th Royal Over-Seas League Competition for strings and piano ensembles. Since then, they have received First Prizes and special awards at the Parkhouse Award at Wigmore Hall, the Schumann Chamber Music Prize in Frankfurt, the Joseph Joachim International Chamber Music Competition, the Triomphe de l’Art International Competition, the Storioni Concours, the Audience Prize at the Schiermonnikoog Festival, and the NEW FORMATS Project Prize. They are currently generously supported by Britten Pears Arts, the City Music Foundation, the Kirckman Concert Society, and GBZ Management. In summer 2023, the trio completed an Artist Fellowship programme at their alma mater, the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, and continues to teach and inspire young ensembles through the Chamber Fellowship Programme at the Royal Northern College of Music through the 2025/2026 academic term.

In March 2023, the Paddington Trio made its concerto debut performing Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with Jan Söderblom and the Jyväskylä Symphony Orchestra in Finland. They have appeared in major venues and series such as Wigmore Hall, King’s Place, the Bridgewater Hall, the Alte Oper Frankfurt, and BBC Total Immersion. More recent international debuts include performances at TivoliVredenburg, the Schiermonnikoog Festival (Netherlands), the Buxton, Brighton, and Oxford festivals (UK), the Flanders Festival Ghent (Belgium), and the International Cervantino Festival (Mexico). The trio has been featured on Klara (Belgium), RTÉ lyric fm (Ireland), YLE Radio (Finland), and BBC Radio 3: In Tune (UK).

Tuulia, Patrick, and Stephanie have worked closely with internationally renowned musicians including Alfred Brendel, Eberhard Feltz, Marc Danel, Gary Hoffman, Anthony Marwood, Robert Levin, Johannes Meissl, David Dolan, and members of the Emerson, Alban Berg, Ébène, Takács, Chilingirian, and Meta4 quartets. They are an ensemble in residence at the Reina Sofía International Institute of Chamber Music under the guidance of Günter Pichler, and also receive mentorship from the European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA), ChamberStudio, and the Netherlands String Quartet Academy (NSKA). The trio has studied with Thomas Adès in masterclasses for the 50th anniversary of IMS Prussia Cove.
