Born in Germany, Alexander Lonquich rose to international prominence after winning the Casagrande Competition in Terni in 1977. He has collaborated with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Kurt Sanderling, Ton Koopman, Emmanuel Krivine, Heinz Holliger, and Marc Minkowski. As both conductor and soloist, he regularly performs with the Camerata Salzburg, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Filarmonica della Scala, and the Orchestra da Camera di Mantova.

Artist in Residence with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, he collaborates as conductor and soloist with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and serves as principal conductor of the Orchestra del Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza.

In the field of chamber music, he has collaborated with Nicolas Altstaedt, Vilde Frang, Joshua Bell, Steven Isserlis, Isabelle Faust, Carolin Widmann, Jörg Widmann, Heinz Holliger, and Frank Peter Zimmermann.

He has received numerous international critical accolades, including the “Diapason d’Or”, the “Premio Abbiati”, and the Dutch “Edison Award”. In piano duo with his wife Cristina Barbuti, he has performed in Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, and the United States.

His teaching activity is equally intense across Europe, the United States, and Australia. He has collaborated with the Accademia Pianistica Internazionale di Imola, the Accademia Musicale Chigiana, and the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln.

In 2013, he created Kantoratelier, a small theatrical space where psychology, music, and theatre are explored through workshops, seminars, and concerts.
