The Sidera Saxophone Quartet draws us into a surprising sonic experience, where the saxophone sheds its most familiar guise to become an instrument with an almost human voice, capable of spiritual and mystical nuances.
The programme is a fascinating play of mirrors between different eras: it begins with the tormented beauty of the Renaissance madrigals by Gesualdo da Venosa, reinterpreted through the modern lens of Salvatore Sciarrino. We then lose ourselves in the mysticism of Arvo Pärt, with a melody inspired by the Scottish Highlands that seems to float in time, offering a moment of peace and profound reflection. Finally, Georg Friedrich Haas’s Quartet immerses us in unprecedented and enveloping sonorities, exploring sound boundaries that challenge traditional listening.
Through their close interplay, the musicians of Sidera demonstrate that four saxophones can tell both ancient stories and future visions, transforming the concert hall into a magical, boundless space.
