Percussionist awarded the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale Musica 2010 (Repertorio Zero project), he has developed a research-oriented artistic path focused on sound exploration, sound installation design, and the assimilation of diverse musical languages. This approach has led him to collaborate with leading avant-garde composers, including Mario Bertoncini, Pierluigi Billone, Silvia Borzelli, Peter Maxwell Davies, Iancu Dumitrescu, Ivan Fedele, Heiner Goebbels, Alexander Knaifel, Helmut Lachenmann, David Lang, Ennio Morricone, Riccardo Nova, Fausto Romitelli, Salvatore Sciarrino, and Francesca Verunelli, as well as with European ensembles such as Berlin Piano Percussion, EnsembleKollektiv, Klangforum Wien, mdi ensemble, Mosaik, Phace, Prometeo, Sentieri Selvaggi, and Zeitkratzer.

In 2018 he founded the ensemble ZAUM_percussion, developing an original repertoire during a three-year residency at the Milano Musica Festival.

He has an extensive discography and numerous solo and chamber projects with artists such as Chris Cutler, Thollem McDonas, Neue Vocalsolisten, Andrea Rebaudengo, and Flavio Virzì, performing at venues including AngelicA, Festival Aperto, Autumn Warsaw, Venice Biennale, Zagreb Biennale, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Krakow International Festival, Impuls Graz, Manca Festival in Nice, Milano Musica, Novara Jazz, and the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza.

He also works as arranger and performer with former members of CCCP/CSI—Giovanni Lindo Ferretti, Gianni Maroccolo, Massimo Zamboni—and with the Wu Ming collective.

He has performed with prestigious orchestras such as the Filarmonica della Scala in Milan, the Orchestra Mozart under Claudio Abbado, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Spira mirabilis, and opera orchestras including La Fenice in Venice, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, and Teatro Massimo in Palermo.

After his conservatory studies, he further trained at the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala, the University of Bologna (DAMS), the Conservatoire National Régional de Paris, ESMUC in Barcelona, and the Hochschule für Musik in Basel. He was born in Reggio Emilia, where he lives and teaches at the Conservatory.
