Violin

Madara Liepiņa was born in Riga, Latvia, into a family of musicians, and began playing the violin at the age of six.

From 2012 to 2018 she studied at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, where she obtained a Master’s degree. Between 2017 and 2019 she further refined her studies in Italy with Maestro Roberto Muttoni, and she is currently his assistant in the “Maxim Jacobsen” project.

As a soloist and chamber musician, she has won numerous competitions across Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Russia, Armenia, and Italy. Her most significant achievements include First Prize at the International “Brother and Sister” Competition in Saint Petersburg (2003), First Prize at the National Violin Competition in Riga (2004 and 2008), First Prize at the International Young Musicians Competition in Sigulda (2007), Third Prize at the T. A. Gaidamovich International Chamber Music Competition-Festival in Magnitogorsk, and multiple First Prizes at chamber music competitions of the Riga Conservatory (2014, 2015, 2016). In 2018 she also won First Prize at “Giovani Artisti di Verona” and has recorded live performances for Latvian Radio Classica.

She has attended masterclasses with Petru Munteanu, Anton Baranov, Ludmila Yesenina, Peter Herresthal, Vadim Gluzman, Kyoko Takezawa, among others.

From 2016 to 2017, the Ingesund School of Music in Arvika (Sweden) entrusted her with a Gaetano Pollastri violin (1936); she currently performs on a violin by Giovanni Lazzaro.

In 2022, in collaboration with Roberto Muttoni, she published a three-part method on the development of violin technique with Musica Baltica.

Since 2024 she has been collaborating with the Orchestra da Camera di Mantova.

Madara will take part in Trame Sonore 2026 as a member of the Orchestra da Camera di Mantova.
