Leonardo Notarangelo was born in 2000 into a family of musicians and graduated in cello in 2018 with top marks and honours from the Conservatory of Music “Santa Cecilia” in Rome, in the class of Dante Cianferra.

A decisive influence on his career was his encounter with Maestro Giovanni Gnocchi, under whose guidance he continued his studies, first in advanced courses in Fiesole (Scuola di Musica di Fiesole) and Bologna (Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna), and from 2020 in a Master’s degree programme at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, which he completed in 2023 with top marks.

Founder of the Elsa Quartet (2014–2019), he trained at the Stauffer Academy in Cremona, taking part in the “Le Dimore del Quartetto” project and winning numerous competitions, including the “Piero Farulli” Prize at the “Crescendo” Competition in Florence. Among his awards are First Prize at the “Riviera Etrusca” Competition in Piombino (2018) and First Absolute Prize in his category at the “Crescendo” Competition in Florence (2022), as well as the Special Prize “Sorgentone-Mecatti” awarded to the best cellist of the edition.

In the 2023–2024 academic year, he attended the second-level Master’s in Chamber Music at the Conservatory of Parma with the René Piano Trio, under the guidance of the Trio di Parma, graduating with top marks.

He has collaborated with numerous orchestras as principal cello, including the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana (2018–2019), the Orchestra dell’Accademia del Teatro alla Scala, and the Orchestra Filarmonica di Benevento.

In 2023–2024 he was an academy member of the Orchestra da Camera di Mantova, as the only recipient of the available scholarship. He plays a 2016 Loeiz Honoré cello made in Cremona.
