Corrado Barbieri was born in Reggio Emilia on 10 July 1980. He graduated with top marks in 2001 from the “Achille Peri” Municipal Music Institute of Reggio Emilia in the bassoon class of M° Franco Fusi. In the same year, he began advanced studies at the Accademia Teatro alla Scala under M° Valentino Zucchiatti.

In 2004, he was admitted to the Universität der Künste Berlin, where he refined his studies with M° Eckart Hübner. In the same year, he won the first edition of the “Gioacchino Rossini” Competition in Pesaro (the only national competition dedicated to the bassoon).

In November 2004, he was selected by M° Riccardo Muti to join the Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini, where he served as principal bassoon. Even after the official three-year period, he continued to collaborate regularly in the same role until September 2012. In September 2005, as a soloist, he performed Antonio Vivaldi’s concerto La tempesta di marewith the Cherubini Orchestra under Riccardo Muti.

With the Cherubini Orchestra, he also took part in numerous audio and video recordings for RAI TRADE, EMI Records, and Gruppo Editoriale L’Espresso. As principal bassoon, he performed in the Christmas Concerts of 2005 and 2009 from the Italian Senate Hall, broadcast live on Eurovision by RAI.

He is currently professor of bassoon at the Conservatory “Orazio Vecchi” in Modena.

He has performed with many orchestras, including the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala, Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala, I Cameristi della Scala, Orchestra Regionale Toscana, Orchestra del Friuli Venezia Giulia, Orchestra Toscanini, Orchestra Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, Orchestra del Teatro Massimo Bellini, Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, I Solisti Veneti, Orchestra Sinfonica G. Verdi di Milano, Fondazione Orchestra Regionale Marchigiana, Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Torino, Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, Orchestra Haydn di Bolzano e Trento, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, among others.

He has served as principal bassoon in several orchestras, including the Marche Regional Orchestra, Sicilian Symphony Orchestra, Emilia-Romagna Toscanini Orchestra, Cameristi della Scala, Haydn Orchestra, Friuli Venezia Giulia Orchestra, Teatro Regio di Torino Orchestra, and Teatro Comunale di Bologna Orchestra.

He has been successful in numerous auditions, including with I Pomeriggi Musicali, Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini, Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma, Orchestra Mozart, Teatro alla Scala Orchestra, Orchestra Regionale Toscana, Haydn Orchestra, Teatro Regio di Parma Orchestra, Toscanini Orchestra, Teatro Comunale di Bologna Orchestra, Teatro Comunale di Firenze Orchestra, and the RAI National Symphony Orchestra.

He was invited to international auditions for major orchestras such as the Wiener Staatsoper Orchestra, Berliner Philharmoniker, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

He has performed in leading concert halls including the Vienna Musikverein, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Lucerne Festival Hall, Salzburg Festival venues, Philharmonie Essen, Philharmonie de Paris, and many others.

He has worked with major conductors and soloists including Riccardo Muti, Yuri Temirkanov, Daniel Barenboim, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Chailly, Claudio Abbado, Kurt Masur, Myung-Whun Chung, Alan Gilbert, Daniele Gatti, Krzysztof Penderecki, Shlomo Mintz, Alexander Lonquich, Vadim Repin, Leonidas Kavakos, Alexandre Toradze, Hansjörg Schellenberger, Bertrand de Billy, and Radu Lupu, among others.

Since 2020, he has been a Yamaha Artist and performs on a Yamaha 812 full-compact bassoon.
