TRAME / SOLO ALLA ROTONDA
In one of the most evocative places in Mantua, located in the ancient district of the luthiers, some of the Festival concerts most loved by the public and artists are held. The Rotonda di San Lorenzo returns to host the reflections of some of the greatest guest artists, true soliloquies of the boundless repertoire for solo instrument. Johann Sebastian Bach’s music has always been at the center of these precious events and it will not be surprising to see some of the artists, such as Danusha Waskiewicz, Miriam Prandi and Ilya Gringolts, confronting the Eisenach composer’s suites, matches and sonatas. A special feature of this year, however, is the strong focus of these concerts in Eastern Europe and Bach’s influence on the composers of that area. So it is for Veress played by Stephen Waarts and for Enescu and Kurtág proposed by Nurit Stark. Not to be missed is the concert by Jonian Ilias Kadesha and Vashti Hunter: the two musicians will play a “solo” in two by addressing Bach’s Inventions for two voices, originally composed for harpsichord, and following Dhipli Zyia by Iannis Xenakis, the Greek composer of which they use the 100th anniversary of his birth, in addition to the Sonata in A minor by Maurice Ravel, a masterpiece of the repertoire for violin and cello.
