Palazzo della Ragione | Sonnabend Collection

A new presence in Mantua’s cultural landscape, the Sonnabend Collection opens its doors to the music of Trame Sonore.

The gallery is housed in the Palazzo della Ragione, one of the symbolic sites of Mantua’s civic history. Built between the eleventh and twelfth centuries to host civic assemblies and the market, it has accumulated layers over the centuries — including the Clock Tower, erected in 1472 to a design by Luca Fancelli with the astronomical clock by Bartolomeo Manfredi — up to the twentieth-century restoration that brought back its original medieval structure.

Since 1997 it has served as an exhibition space for the Civic Museums, and today the building hosts one of the most significant private collections of the twentieth century, which has found here its permanent home.
