Maurizio Azzan is an Italian composer and sound artist.

Winner of several composition competitions (including the Impuls International Composition Competition, Premio Nazionale delle Arti, “Franco Donatoni” International Meetings, and The Yvar Mikhashoff Trust for New Music), he has been artist-in-residence at the Austrian Federal Chancellery within the KulturKontakt program (2019), at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris (2017–18), with Ensemble Fractales in Brussels (2018–19 season), at the Italian Cultural Institute in Paris (2020–21), and at the Fortissimissimo Firenze Festival (2021).
He has received commissions from institutions including the Venice Biennale Musica (2019), Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation (2014, 2019, 2022), Teatro La Fenice Foundation (2013, 2019), Ensemble Phace and Wiener Konzerthaus (2023), Impuls New Music Festival (2022), MATA Festival New York (2021), MA/IN Festival (2024), ProQuartet (2024), Fondazione “I Teatri” of Reggio Emilia (2018), and SIAE (“Classici di Oggi” 2019), among others.
He studied composition at the Milan Conservatory (with A. Solbiati), at the CNSM in Paris (with F. Durieux, Y. Maresz, L. Naon), at IRCAM, and with Salvatore Sciarrino. He also holds a BA and MA in Classical Philology and Ancient Literature from the University of Turin.
All his works written up to 2022 are published by Edizioni Suvini Zerboni – SugarMusic S.p.A., and since 2023 his music has been published by Casa Ricordi – Universal Music Publishing.
He teaches composition at the Conservatorio di Mantova in Italy.
