Giovanni Scaglione graduated with top marks from the Conservatorio “Niccolò Paganini” in Genoa, where he studied under N. Zanardi. He later attended advanced courses with M. Flaksman and A. Meneses. In 1997 he entered the Konzertklasse of I. Monighetti at the Musikhochschule in Basel, where he had the opportunity to perform with S. Azzolini and G. Kremer. The performance of Schumann’s Cello Concerto with the Basel Symphony Orchestra served as the final examination for the achievement of the prestigious Solisten-Diplom.
In 2001 he won the audition organized by C.I.D.I.M. for a position in the Boccherini Sextet, with which he performed for major Italian concert societies. At the same time, he attended courses in Brescia with M. Brunello and at the Accademia Stauffer in Cremona with R. Filippini, who—together with S. Accardo—invited him to collaborate in chamber music concerts held at the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza.
In 2002 he became a member of the Quartetto di Cremona, undertaking an intense concert activity that has taken him around the world. Alongside his quartet work, he also pursues a solo career, making his solo debut in 2011 in a live broadcast from the Quirinale on RAI with a program for solo cello, followed by further recitals at the Lyceum Club in Florence and the Società del Quartetto in Milan.
During the 2013–14 season he performed in important concert halls. He is currently professor of Quartet and Chamber Music at the Accademia Stauffer in Cremona.
Giovanni Scaglione participates in Trame Sonore 2026 with the Quartetto di Cremona.
