Cristiano Gualco was born in Genoa in 1974. He began studying the violin at the age of seven and graduated with top marks from the Genoa Conservatory. He later moved to London, where he studied violin with Krzysztof Smietana at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His final period of solo violin studies was with Salvatore Accardo at the Accademia Stauffer in Cremona.
In Cremona, during an orchestra tour, he co-founded the Quartetto di Cremona, and from that moment he began touring the world with the ensemble. As first violin of the quartet, he has performed in venues such as Wigmore Hall in London, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Società del Quartetto in Milan, Les Grands Interprètes in Geneva, the Black Diamond in Copenhagen, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, and many other prestigious halls, and has recorded several critically acclaimed and award-winning CDs.
Since 2011, the Quartetto di Cremona has held the professorship for the Advanced Specialization Course in String Quartet at the Accademia Stauffer in Cremona, and it is regularly invited to give masterclasses in Europe and the United States. In 2015, the quartet was awarded honorary citizenship of the city of Cremona.
