Nicola Sani - composer

Nicola Sani was born in Ferrara on 27 March 1961. Composer and artistic director, he is the author of musical theater works, symphonic, chamber and intermedial compositions performed all over the world. Among the awards are the Prix “Ars Electronica” Linz-Golden Nica, Guggenheim Prize, Tanturri Foundation Prize, Erato Farnesina Prize of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was awarded the honor of “Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters” by the French Minister of Culture, the British Council awarded him the “New Connections Recognition Award”. In cinema and visual arts he has worked with Michelangelo Antonioni, Mario Sasso, Studio Azzurro, Nam June Paik and David Ryan. He is the author, with Francesco Galante, of the book Musica Espansa, of essays in musicology magazines and of numerous articles in newspapers and cultural magazines. The catalog of his works is published by Edizioni Suvini Zerboni. He has an extensive discography and videography to his credit published by Stradivarius and Medusa, Kairos, Wergo, Ema Vinci, Limen and others.
For his activity in cultural management he is currently artistic director of the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, artistic advisor of the IUC, member of the Board of Directors of the “Archivio Luigi Nono” Foundation of Venice and of the scientific committee of the Bassiri Foundation. He was superintendent and artistic director of the Teatro Comunale of Bologna, artistic director and member of the Board of Directors of the Teatro dell’Opera of Rome, president of the National Institute of Verdian Studies of Parma and of the Scelsi Foundation of Rome, consultant of the German Academy “Villa Massimo” and the American Academy in Rome. With the Teatro Comunale of Bologna he obtained 5 Abbiati Awards.
