Giovanni Gnocchi studied with Rocco Filippini, Mario Brunello, Antonio Meneses, Natalia Gutman, David Geringas, Heinrich Schiff, Clemens Hagen, Steven Isserlis, Ferenc Rados, Gabor Takàcs-Nagy and Sir András Schiff.
He has been a soloist under the direction of Gustavo Dudamel, Christopher Hogwood, Carlo Rizzi, Daniel Cohen, Enrico Bronzi, Michele Spotti, in halls such as the Wiener Konzerthaus, the halls of Stuttgart, Manheim, Wiesbaden, Bonn and Salzburg, with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra , Camerata Salzburg, Orchestra of Tuscany, the Philharmonic of the Fenice of Venice, the Chamber Orchestra of Mantua. From 2019 for a three-year period he has been a soloist in residence at the Rossini Symphony Orchestra of Pesaro.
He has performed in chamber concerts with Leonidas Kavakos, Alexander Lonquich, Ilya Gringolts, the Hagen Quartet, Marco Rizzi, Elizabeth Leonskaja, Itamar Golan, Pierre Amoyal, Pekka Kuusisto, Alena Baeva, Roman Simovic, Alexandra Conunova, Jens-Peter Maintz. He has been invited to the Ljubljana Cello Fest in Slovenia, Ilumina Festival in Brazil, Järna Music Festival in Sweden, Delft Music Festival in Holland, Musikdorf Ernen Festival in Switzerland, Casals Festival in Prades, Radio-France Festival in Montepellier, Verbier Festival.
He has recorded for Deutsche Grammophone, Stradivarius and for the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
In 2012 he won the competition as Professor of Cello at the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg.
