Antonio Ballista - piano

Antonio Ballista, pianist and conductor, has placed no restrictions on his curiosity since the beginning of his career and has dedicated himself to studying the most diverse musical expressions.
Since 1953, he has played in a piano duo with Bruno Canino, a group of uninterrupted activity whose presence was fundamental for the diffusion of new music and for catalyzing composers.
He has played under the direction of Abbado, Bertini, Boulez, Brüggen, Chailly, Maderna and Muti and with the BBC Orchestra, the Concertgebouw, the Israel Philharmonic, the Scala of Milan, the Wiener Philarmoniker, the London Symphony, the Orchester de Paris, the Philadelphia and Cleveland Orchestras and the New York Philharmonic and has collaborated with ensembles such as the Cameristi del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Soloists of the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Accademia Teatro alla Scala.
He has been invited to the festivals in Paris, Edinburgh, Warsaw, Berlin, Strasbourg, Venice and Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
Berberian, Berio, Boccadoro, Bussotti, Canino, Castaldi, Castiglioni, Clementi, Corghi, De Pablo, Donatoni, Giuliano, Gorli, Luca and Daniele Lombardi, Lucchetti, Morricone, Mosca, Panni, Picco, Sciarrino, Sollima,Toni and Ugolett wrote for him.
He has toured with Berio, Dallapiccola and Stockhausen and collaborated with Boulez, Cage and Ligeti in monographic concerts.
He is the founder and director of the ensemble Novecento e Oltre, a stable formation that debuted in 1995 and whose repertoire ranges from the historical twentieth century to the most recent trends.
His collaboration with soprano Lorna Windsor includes programs that challenge the boundaries between concert and stage performance.
He taught at the Parma and Milan Conservatories and at the “Incontri col Maestro” Piano Academy in Imola.
