In 1989, the oboists Alfredo Bernardini, Paolo Grazzi and the bassoonist Alberto Grazzi founded Zefiro, an ensemble with variable staff specializing in eighteenth-century music with period instruments in which wind instruments are in the foreground. Not surprisingly, in Greek mythology Zephyr is the sweet and gentle god of the West Wind.
Its founders are considered among the most valid performers in the early music field and make use of the collaboration of the best instrumentalists on the European scene.
Zefiro is present in the main European festivals, in Israel, Egypt, South America, Japan, Canada, Korea, United States and New Zealand.
Numerous recordings include Zelenka’s sonatas, Mozart’s wind music and divertissements for strings and winds, Beethoven’s wind music, Handel’s Water Music and Telemann’s Wassermusik, wind arrangements from Mozart’s Operas and the ” Concertos for Various Instruments” and “Oboe Concertos” by Vivaldi, Mozart’s Concertos for Oboe, Bassoon and Concertone, Vivaldi’s Bassoon Concertos, Telemann’s Overtures, Venetian Oboe Concertos and JSBach’s orchestral works : Overtures/Suites and Brandenburg Concertos.
Some of these CDs have received international awards, including the “Grand Prix du Disque”, the “Editor’s Choice de Gramophone”, the “Choc du Monde de la Musique de l’annĂ©e”, the “Diapason d’Or de l year”, the “Franco Abbiati Prize”.
