Born in Zurich, Sayaka Selina Studer began playing the cello at the age of 6 with R. Firth. Then the study with Th. Demenga at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel, J. Pernoo at the Conservatoire de Paris and F. Helmerson at the renowned Hochschule “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin, where she completed her studies.
Sayaka Studer is currently a member of the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and is led by principal cellist, L. Quandt. She frequently performs as a soloist with the Zurich and Basel chamber orchestras, the Zurich Camerata and the New Zurich Orchestra. More recent projects include a Boccherini Concerto, the first of a piece for violin, cello and string orchestra, written for her and her sister by Th. Demenga, as well as Shostakovich’s first Cello Concerto.
In addition to having received numerous awards in national and international competitions (the “Antonio Janigro” in Croatia, the “Domenico Gabrielli” in Berlin and the “Viva Hall” in Japan), Sayaka is a passionate chamber musician and has been invited at the festivals of Marlboro, Verbier and Ravinia, Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad and Open Chamber Music Prussia Cove.
Sayaka Studer currently plays a Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume cello, supplied to her by a private sponsor.
