In the summer of 2020, Ilya Gringolts and Ilan Volkov founded the I&I Foundation for the Promotion of Contemporary Music, which rewards young composers.
He has performed with renowned orchestras such as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the NHK Symphony Orches-tra, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic , the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Deutsches Sym-phonie-Orchester of Berlin and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
His extensive discography for Deutsche Grammophon, BIS and Hyperion also includes the acclaimed recording of Paganini’s 24 Caprices for solo violin and the second part of his recording of Stravinsky’s complete violin works (2018), recorded with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia led by Dima Sloboden-iouk and awarded the Diapason d’Or.
As first violin of the Gringolts Quartet, he enjoyed great success at the Salzburg Festival, the Lucerne Festival, the Edinburgh Festival, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Philharmonie Luxembourg, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Konzerthaus in Dortmund and the Teatro La Fenice. from Venice. A popular chamber musician, Ilya Gringolts regularly collaborates with artists such as James Boyd, Itamar Golan, Peter Laul, Aleksandar Madzar, Nicolas Altstaedt, Christian Poltera, David Kadouch, Antoine Tamestit and Jörg Widmann.
He plays a Stradivarius violin (1718 “ex-Prové”).
