The MidtVest Ensemble, founded in 2002, is now made up of nine classical musicians, who together make up a string trio, a wind quintet and a pianist.
It is based at the HEART – Herning Museum of Contemporary Art, in Herning (Denmark) which houses rehearsal rooms and a concert hall.
It performs about 100 concerts a year in Denmark and abroad, including in venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, at the Nordic Museum in Seattle, at Kings’ Place in London.
They regularly work with high profile musicians such as Pekka Kuusisto, Torleif Thedéen, Christoph Richter, Andreas Brantelid, Matthew Barley, Knut Erik Sundquist, Martin Fröst, Charles Neidich, Johannes Peitz, Alexander Lonquich, Christina Bjørkøe, Aleksandar Madžar, Johannes Fischer, Christina Landshamer , Bo Skovhus.
The MidtVest Ensemble has recorded 23 CDs. Piano quartet recordings by Mozart and Brahms won the Danish Broadcasting Corporation’s P2 Award for Best Danish CD of the Year. In 2020, the critically acclaimed album “Whirl’s World” featuring works by Per Nørgård was nominated for a Gramophone Award.
