Alejandro Viana was born in Madrid in 1996. He studied with María de Macedo and with Lluis Claret. He is currently studying at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía with Ivan Monighetti, and previously with Natalia Shakhoskaya. In his school he was awarded the “Most Outstanding Student” award six times. He was part of the Classe d`Excellence de Violoncelle 2018/2019 at the Fondation Louis Vuitton with Gautier Capuçon. He recently premiered at Carnegie Hall.
He has received first prizes in various competitions such as the International Cello Competition in Liezen (Austria), the National Cello Competition “Jaime Dobato Benavente” de Alcañiz (Teruel), the Manhattan Competition, the Soncello Competition, the IX International Cello Competition ‘Antonio Janigro’ and the Special Prize “I Solisti di Zagreb” (Croatia), the Debut Concert of the Elbphilarmonie, the International Cello Competition of Llanes and the International Cello Competition “Karl Davidov” in Kuldiga (Latvia). He is also the holder of the “Juventudes Musicales” scholarship.
He has played as a soloist with the Andrés Segovia Chamber Orchestra, with the Zagreb Soloists, the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra, the IUVENTAS Orchestra, the Málaga Philarmonic Orchestra, the Camerata Viesgo, the Chamber Orchestra of the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique et de Danse of Paris, the Galizian Symphonic Orchestra and the Freixenet Symphonic Orchestra under Plácido Domingo, David Afkham and Andrés Orozco-Estrada.
