One concert, three plots. For In-canto Ian Bostridge will play Fauré’s ‘La Bonne Chanson’ (Esprit de France) together with artist in residence Alexander Lonquich, and the Quartet Kelemen. Fauré’s Chanson consists of a cycle of nine melodies based on the poems of the homonymous collection by Verlaine. The cycle was composed by Fauré during his stay in Bougival, at the home of the banker Bardac and his wife, Emma. Falling in love with the banker’s wife, a talented singer, Fauré wrote this cycle with the hope of hearing her sing for him every day.
