This “expanded” piano trio shouldn’t surprise the listener. In Mendelssohn’s time it was normal to offer home versions of the great symphonic masterpieces, so that even privately it was possible to get an idea of them. It is by taking up this tradition that the Galleria degli Specchi is transformed into an early nineteenth-century living room for Mendelssohn’s First Symphony, with the piano by Prosseda and Pompili, the violin by Nikogosya and the cello by Buti.
