Music and acting come together in this event dedicated to Henze, Shakespeare, Hölderlin and the guitar. Composed for the great guitarist Julian Bream, who challenged the composer to write a guitar sonata comparable to Beethoven’s Hammerklavier, the Royal Winter Music consists of two sonatas, for a total of nine movements, each inspired by a Shakespearean character. Preceding the second of these Sonatas are the Tre Tentos, built on fragments by Hölderlin.
